Neat story, neat find. I too have memories of my pink parents ultimately abandoning their infatuation of communism in favor of earning a living and raising a family.
My parents were actually New Deal liberals. But two of my mother's older brothers were much further to the left. My uncle Benny, as noted, was a Trotskyist. His older brother, who became a classicist and taught at colleges in New York was, in his earlier days, a Stalinist. The brothers, who dutifully and regularly visited their Old World parents in the Bronx, didn't speak to each other since the Stalin-Trotsky split. It was different age!
